THE RUBEN FILES

 I found some old papers I kept from the early ninities, and decided to scan some of the computer/demoscene related ones.
The letters and most of the scene-related items are from my time as a swapper in the Amiga demoscene around 1989-1992. Other things are from demoscene parties, computershops or just picked up elsewhere in roughly the same time period.

Backstory

I was a member of the following Amiga groups back then (in order): XENOMORPH, SYNERGY, SYNERGY OF ROYAL AMIGA FORCE, SYMBIOSIS .

My scene nickname was READ/WRITE ERROR or just RWE or even RW ERROR for short.

I kept mail contact with both sceners and non-sceners, both so-called lamers and self-declared ELITES in the Amiga Demoscene. Some just for swapping floppies, others also for fun and friendship. Scanning these papers in 2026 was the first time I spent time reading though them since back then.

The way it worked: For most swappers it was important to always send and receive fresh releases. 0-3 day productions was preferred, preferably not older than a week. It could be a problem when mail was slow or I had been on holiday and sendings had piled up. That was part of the fun, actually. Another challenge was that I lived isolated on a farm, far from friends with an Amiga. Quite a lot of work, but rewarding in so many ways.

You may find some of the content offensive (Mostly it's not, but some of us though we were so damn cool). Remember: Everything is written privately, personally and in another time. We were young and stupid. I just publish it here as I recieved it back then. It's quite the time capsule. Note that some letters are in Norwegian.

These are just the letters I actually kept - many and more are lost in time, like tears in rain.
